Promo with Saint Alvia

September 30, 2008

September was the month of Saint Alvia and while they were on tour with Against Me! With A Bullet was charged with capitalizing on this in-market activity and making sure that every promotional opportunity with the local radio stations was exhausted.

Saint Alvia rock the MTV Live studio audience!

On this tour we secured the following for Saint Alvia:

  • Interview with Too Tall  at CHOM Montreal
  • Interview on The Fox in North Bay (this station ran clips of the interview all weekend and plugged the show and album on the day-of-show)
  • Rock 94 Thunder Bay did repeated on-air plugs of the show and the album release
  • Power 97 staff attended the show in Winnipeg thus laying solid groundwork for future opps with them
  • Rock 102 Saskatoon had the band co-host an entire show on-air with Chad McDonald.
  • X92 Calgary had the band in for an on-air interview and acoustic performance
  • CFOX in Vancouver invited the band in to perform an intimate acoustic set for their staff members, it was a great opportunity for the band to develop a better relationship with the station.
  • Edge 102 in Toronto gave the band two interviews and an on-air performance, plus CD giveaways on the Punkorama show
  • MTV Canada invited the band in for a live television performance on their flagship show MTV Live.

All in all this was a hugely successful run of dates for Saint Alvia and With A Bullet.

Library Voices

September 19, 2008

Artist Bio:
Library Voices is a ten-piece pop collective from Regina, Saskatchewan. Blending tremolo soaked guitars with analog synths, vintage organs, circuit bent electronics, accordion, saxophone, and glockenspiel, their songs play out like an AM radio jingle; mixing the best of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and today. Since forming in spring of 2008, the group has operated at a feverish pace, having recorded a 3 song demo, recorded and released a 6 song ep, and participated in several high profile festivals and showcases including Sled Island (Mogwai, Of Montreal, Okkervil River), Regina Folk Festival (Broken Social Scene, The Weakerthans, Final Fantasy), Gateway Festival (Greg Keelor), and performed before 2500+ at Ness Creek. Library Voices debut EP. Hunting Ghosts & Other Collected Shorts, offers a clear and concise introduction to the collective. The group’s songwriting objectives are evident, bridging sophisticated pop hooks and melodies with complex harmonies and anthemic sing along choruses.

Radio Strategy:
Introduce the band to campus, CBC, and indie shows at Mainstream radio through their EP Hunting For Ghosts & Other Collected Shorts, readying them for their upcoming full length due out January 2009 on Young Soul Records.

Press Quotes:
“Library Voices give pop a good name! Mixing classic influences (The Kinks, The Zombies) with a more contemporary indie-pop collective aesthetic they have managed to craft a handful of timeless tunes that couldn’t exist anytime but right now. While unexpected mid-song disintegrations and perfectly imperfect gang vocals add a nice seasoning to their mix, it’s their ability to never lose sight of the song that makes this so vital.” - Sled Island Festival 08 (Calgary)

“Just when you feel like you’re all used up and it’s time to go, some music gets under your skin and changes your mind.”SEE Magazine (Edmonton)

Bad Flirt

September 19, 2008

Artist Bio:
In 2005, Jasamine White-Gluz founder and front woman of Bad Flirt decided to finally take the leap from solo project and turn her vision into a full band. From the band’s inception, they were working hard booking their own US and Canadian Tours and selling a few thousand of their first EP from off the stage. Following their hectic touring schedule, the band buckled down with famed producer Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Wolf Parade) to create their upcoming full album Virgin Talk. The idea for Virgin Talk stemmed for the band’s love for a certain 90’s family sitcom. Using the ideas of youth and childhood memories as the backdrop, Bad Flirt created an homage to the splendour of innocence. Virgin Talk is high-energy pop rock that’s chalk full of stellar hooks with perfectly archetypal post-punk bass lines. From the danceable chaos of Hiroshima Mon Frere to the lingering lines of Separate Rooms, Virgin Talk is a ’stuck-in-your-head-for-days’ kind of album. Virgin Talk is set to be released on October 7th in the US & Canada and Bad Flirt continues to tour North America.

Radio Strategy:
Targets are Campus radio, CBC, and indie shows at Mainstream radio. Set up interviews around tour dates as well as setting up contesting.

Ndidi Onukwulu

September 19, 2008

Artist Bio:
There are voices that demand we listen to them. Not to their words necessarily, but to their tone, to the emotional undercurrent that carries with it the soul of the speaker. Ndidi Onukwulu is one of those voices and she sings to bring us back to sounds of our insides. Lyrics reminiscent of the rattling thoughts found in the back of our minds layer in and around organically ground sounds. She sings of her life experience so convincingly the audience is set to wonder if they too grew up wandering the dense forests of B.C’s most lonely mountain towns. This may be the reason behind her winning the Maple Blues New Artist of the Year award in January of 2007, representing as she does a distinctly Canadian experience; standing astride lines blurred between contrasting cultures and heritages. Born of a Nigerian father and a German mother her lineage, like her music, explores the globe then brings it back home. Her gypsy journey has collected a diverse range of sounds and styles which she weaves into an orchestration strong enough to support her strong lyrics and relentless vocals.
The Contradictor is personal and universal, built on Ndidi’s songwriting mining the extremes of intimacy, with the bigger sounds and tones she is most interested in uncovering. These are songs of heartache, heartbreak, and longing. ‘Not nice,’ as she says, but as full as these can be. And as rich.

Radio Strategy:
The focus with Ndidi and The Contradictor is to build upon the great foundation she’s laid at campus and community radio and take that to the next level of Jazz/Blues/AC stations across Canada.

Press Quotes:
“Casually labelled a blues singer after her first solo record No, I Never, Ndidi Onukwulu has overcome the genre’s limitations by hot-wiring disparate influences into a powerful follow-up.” - EYE Magazine Toronto

“Onukwulu is a soul singer, and an exceptional one at that.” Hour Magazine Montreal
